Glossary of Seat Covers

Custom Fit seat covers are designed to fit almost as good as the original upholstery. These covers fit so well because they are made only after getting the exact make and model specifications and feeding the data to the computer for the designing. Computer aided designs and manufacturing techniques allows every pattern to be customized for the materials used in each pattern, while assuring a perfect fit across all material lines.

Friction in terms of vehicle upholstery stands for chafing or rubbing together of a pair of materials that may include fabric, polyester, leather, etc. Due to this, heat is generated, and this heat in turn is responsible for surface deterioration of any of the materials.

Neoprene a multi-utility oil-resistant material known for its extensive use in wet suits, V-belts, electrical insulations, etc, now being used in making sparkling sporty seat covers for cars, SUVs, minivans, trucks and other modes of transportation.

Pelt often commonly means any animal skin or hide, though in the upholstery trade, it indicates animal hide with hair, wool or fur still attached to it after due curing. Pelt is commonly used in set cover making, replacing fur which is far too expensive.

Pink Slip is a slang for automobile registration certificate, used broadly on account of its color. Also, slang for notice of being fired or laid off from a job. In automobiles, the term refers to a race in which the winner receives the loser's vehicle: You should never lose the Pink Slip!

Polyester is a water-resisting tough synthetic fiber that is highly regarded. It is now extensively used in car seat cover making for its moisture resisting properties. But there are many other applications too.
 
Semi-custom Fit Covers obviously cannot be as good as custom fit, but nevertheless, they are better than Universal covers. Semi-custom fit seat covers should never be used in vehicles with side airbag safety features as these covers may obstruct the performance of these crucial safety points.

Universal Fit seat covers can fit any high or low-backed bucket seat, irrespective of the make, model or year of manufacture of the vehicle. Yes they offer a readymade solution, but the problem is, they never fit really well.

UV/ Ultra Violet Radiation stands for emission of sun’s ultra violet rays that are not only harmful for human skin, but also causes severe damage to the automobile's body and upholstery.
